Prof. Roland Wagner

VP Bioprocess Development

Roland Wagner graduated as a biologist at the Technical University of Braunschweig and submitted his thesis about the production of biopharmaceuticals in plant cell cultures in 1985. Subsequently, he focused on metabolic and engineering aspects of bioprocesses with animal cell cultures obtaining his habilitation qualification with a professorial thesis at the TU Braunschweig in 1992. After 20 years in academic research as head of the Cell Culture Technology Dept. at the German Research Centre for Biotechnology (now called the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research) Roland became head of R&D Bioprocess Sciences at the Miltenyi Biotech. In 2008, he accepted the position as SVP Development at Rentschler Biotechnologie, a CMO exlusively focusing on animal cell culture-based processes for manufacturing biopharmaceuticals. Roland was appointed adjunct Professor for Biotechnology at the TU Braunschweig in 2001. He has over 100 publications and is co-inventor of several patents. Among others Roland Wagner is member of the steering committee of the intentional Animal Cell Technology Industrial Platform and Vice Chairman of the DECHEMA cell culture technology advisory panel.
