The transcriptome is the complete set of transcripts present in a cell and their quantity at a particular time or under a particular physiological circumstance. Transcriptomics is the study of the transcriptome, and the techniques utilised to do this can be PCR, hybridisation or sequencing based. In the NICB we have a state of the art Affymetrix GeneChip Core Facility which facilitates groups within the NICB and external collaborators to study the transcriptome. We collaborate closely with the Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Core Facility to assist groups with experimental design, and provide expert advice & training on RNA extraction and handling, microarray processing, and follow up validation experiments.
